Lourdes loves cats because, "they are not only beautiful creatures, they are also intriguing and challenge you to get to know them for the individual being that they are." As to why she joined Cat Sitting by Susan, Lourdes' answer is, "Susan! To start, I love that Cat Sitting by Susan is a small, local, woman-owned business, operated by people who genuinely love cats and enjoy caring for them. Changed career paths to follow my passion for animals and helping people, so it's the best of both worlds!"

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, trying new foods, and hanging out with her friends and her sweet kitties. She says she loves cats, "because they don't just love immediately and/or unconditionally; it might take time for a cat to warm up to you, but as soon as they do, they're yours forever. I think that more often than not, the cat chooses the human and not vice versa. Cats also have so many different personalities that go unappreciated when compared with dogs." She is currently working as an Instructional Assistant for elementary students with autism, but decided to join the Cat Sitting by Susan team. "I have always had a passion for cats, and I want to spend all my free time with kitties!"

She is a registered yoga teacher and is working on a novel, along with other smaller writing projects. I previously worked as a dog walker, but I didn’t feel very passionate about it. There were times that I was asked to take care of cats and that was the most fulfilling part of the day. In his spare time, Sam likes playing video games and has begun enjoying soccer. As he puts it, "the world cup pushed me to the other 'football'". Also, "I recently started learning Korean and I find doing the lessons very enjoyable, though I am not conversational yet!" As to why she loves kitties, she explained, "In my eyes there is no purer soul than an animal's. Growing up. I always thought I was more of a dog person, but then after living with cats, it shifted a bit. You have to work for a cat's affection, so it makes it all the more sweeter when they show it to you. I didn’t know just how loving they can be until I lived with a pair. It’s really rewarding to gain a cat's trust." She is currently taking a step down from her career in café management so she can be home more, for her new fur babies and her mother. Giulet decided to join Cat Sitting by Susan because, "I love that the company is cat focused instead of being a mix of dogs and cats. She explains that she loves cats because they "have boundaries and preferences, just like people, but choose to love their people - when they choose you, they love you unconditionally for life!" She is currently proudly serving our country as a civilian employee at the Department of Defense. Esther decided to join the Cat Sitting by Susan team because "my cats are truly my babies and I know just how much worry creeps along when leaving home. I recently left the country for a month and would spend nearly half the day watching Luna on the camera to make sure she was okay! I am so happy to provide solace to other cat parents so that they can take care of business when they're away. I love meeting new kitties and learning their different personalities!"

In her free time, she says that the gym is definitely her favorite hobby, and anything that involves being active. Ilana explains that she loves cats "because they have so much personality, and can make people feel so loved, yet they aren’t even able to speak a word! I think that’s the most incredible thing about pets, and cats specifically." She is currently an undergrad at WVU, studying psychology. Her goal is to join the FBI as a criminal psychologist! In her spare time, Faviola enjoys going to the beach, dancing with friends, reading, and doing yoga. She says she loves cats "because they have a great personality. I love how they like their space respected, and they go to you when they want to. I also love how crazy they are and how they play; their love is so pure and honest." Faviola is working on growing in her professional life while maintaining a good balance between working and enjoying life. We love to meet our prospective furry customers (and their parents!), so please call or text and set up a virtual meet and greet (M&G) via FaceTime or Zoom (adding Google Meet soon)! We learned something valuable during the last year. We have done well over a hundred virtual M&Gs over the past year, and have found that everything worked out wonderfully, even when there were medications involved that we needed to discuss. After years of in-person M&Gs, over the last year, we’ve begun to question whether they are actually the best way to initially meet your fur baby. We've often wondered why after meeting a kitty at an in-person M&G, that kitty is no less skittish or uncomfortable when the sitter arrives for the first visit. Could it be that at the in-person M&G, when the sitter’s scent mixes with the kitty's parents’ scent, and then Mom & Dad go away, do kitties connect the sitter’s scent to their parents leaving? During a virtual M&G, our sitter can see your kitty without leaving their scent; learn where food, water, and litter are, learn what your kitty loves to do, and of course, you can see us and your sitter, and ask any questions you’d like. We believe that our sitter bonds with your kitty better on their own than when the parents are there. All of our sitters are serious cat people, who have kitties of their own, so on their first visit to your fur baby, they know how to approach slowly and how to read your kitty. This way, your kitty connects the sitter's scent to a positive memory - getting fed, watered, loved and played with. Of course, there may be exceptions when an in-person visit would be called for.
Initial meet & greets are complimentary if you book for four or more consecutive visits.
Please see customer testimonials below, and our 5-star reviews on Yelp, Google, Nextdoor, and Care.com! Background checks for all sitters are available for viewing. Links are at the bottom of the page.

This was our first time using a cat sitter and we were concerned about being away from the cats. Cat sitting by Susan did a wonderful job with under the cat sitter Samantha set us many good photos, videos via phone and email to show how our cats ( Esme and Aster) were doing. We would happily use their service again and highly recommend it.

If I could give more stars I would! They are so wonderfully nice and took amazing care of my cat who even has to get pills. The pricing is really amazing for how communicative that they are. I got a bunch of picture and videos each visit!

We were traveling for a week for spring break and needed someone to take care of our two cats. We found Cat Sitting by Susan and it was a great process by which we were introduced to our cat sitter, Miracle. Miracle took amazing care of the cats and sent us videos and updates every day. She was able to befriend our super shy cat which is quite an accomplishment. It was such a relief to know our cats were in good hands. We will definitely be using this service in the future.

March 2023
Theresa did a wonderful job watching our 7-year-old furball! She even managed to clean out the litter box each day for a week without making the usual mess I make when cleaning it, since it's in a really tight space. I really like these folks too since it's their policy to send you pics and vids of your cat every day. It was very reassuring since we've never hired a sitter before. Will definitely hire them again!

March 2023
I hired Cat Sitting by Susan to watch over 4 cats (my 3 and a visitor) for a week during early March 2023. Since the 17-year old house guest cat required medicine twice day, I could not rely on a neighborhood kid. I needed reliability and experience. Their pre-sign up questions were thorough. They did not come to my house physically in advance; however, we walked around with video. It all worked out great. Olivia's text and email updates were very detailed and would put any owner at ease. My mother was very impressed too. I think my litter boxes have never been this clean! (a new aspiration). This was more than I usually pay, but very worth it for the service I required. (Also, if you drop off your key to them in person, have a meal or a beverage at the beer / wine store!)

December 2022
I am very please with Cat Sitting by Susan. The team there is quite professional. I love Erin as my cat sitter. My kitties look forward to her visit. My oldest runs to the door when Erin arrives and she looks forward to her feeding and play. My youngest kitty is afraid of new people but Erin's patience and persistence has paid off. The little one looks forward to Erin's petting her and hanging out to play. I highly recommend Cat Sitting by Susan!
